How is the economy doing? Depends on whether you buy into what you hear or what you see. Trump would have you believe that the economy is bad, very bad, and that we are sad, very sad, “Trump”-eting this gloomy message repeatedly, magnified in the MAGA megaphone of misery. Trump, of course, hoping that you are swayed by this constant negative rhetoric, would be glad, very glad if you voted for him. Instead of gullibly giving in to what you hear, take a step away and take a look around, what do you see? On a Thursday last week I drove my trusty vehicle several hours up Rt 476, Northeast extension and Rt 81. I could not help but notice the number of tractor trailers on the road; it seemed as if every fourth or fifth vehicle was a semi- truck hauling - stuff. JB Hunt, Old Dominion, US Express, Kane, the list goes on of the trucks I passed as I tooled my way up the highway. And it occurred to me that these trucks were carrying stuff - stuff that was bought and sold, stuff that was being delivered to buyers, the stuff of commerce, the stuff of businesses humming along. This was a visual indication of an economy chugging along, thank you very much. It was also evident as these semi trucks lumbered up hills with their flashers on, or inched their way slowly around the sharp curves of on- and off- ramps that these trucks were heavy, carting full loads of whatever merchandise they were delivering to the purchaser. This is exactly what Trump and his MAGA megaphone of misery mopes do not want you to see. This preponderance of tractor trailers on the road is a good sign that the economy, far from being bad, very bad, is actually hanging in there. Next time you take a road trip, look around. Get your head out of the MAGA megaphone, and open your eyes. Not only tractor trailers on the road. How many “Now Hiring” signs do you see posted at places of business? How many restaurants do you see crowded with patrons? This is not the hopeless slough of despond that is depicted and perpetuated in the MAGA megaphone of misery echo chamber. Take a road trip. Take a walk. Look around. Trust what you see. And tell the MAGA megaphone of misery proselytizers that it’s time to hit the road.
