The average wage for manufacturing in Vietnam is $3 an hour. In Mexico it’s $7 or $8. In the US, it’s about $30. It’s pretty clear why so many companies produce their products somewhere other than the US. And now, if companies bow to Trump and build plants in the US, how do you think those manufacturers will cut costs to keep the price of their products down? Do the math. Trump’s push for companies to move their production to the US is a Trojan Horse. One doesn’t need a Signal chat to know that the end target is ultimately to undermine American workers and the unions that represent them. Trump admires Elon Musk’s “Cutter” approach, praising Musk when he tells workers, “You want to strike? That’s ok, you’re gone,” gushing, “You are the greatest.” Trump eliminated collective bargaining for TSA workers, and just stripped federal workers of union contracts. Companies who move their facilities to the US will no doubt follow this anti-labor example, cutting labor overhead to preserve the bottom line, all while pocketing lovely tax cuts. The warning signs are there, and American workers will need to hold on to their current contracts, wages and benefits tightly and with both hands. They are not safe. Just ask your local now-unemployed federal worker. The Trojan Horse is at the gate. Don’t be fooled. There is danger within; this Trump/MAGA regime has no qualms stripping you of your workers’ rights, for their profit and your loss.
