A car dealer and his huckster assistant walk onto the White House lawn. Sounds like the beginning of a joke. Trump and Musk posed before several Teslas on the White House lawn, orchestrated and live streamed for all to see. All so Trump could show support for his billionaire bro whose Tesla stock has plummeted in a backlash to the scorched earth job cuttings and closures Musk indiscriminately applied across government and non-government agencies. Boo hoo. This is but a smidge of Musk’s worth, but Trump had to back his bud. Will Trump next hawk the wares of the struggling entrepreneurial furniture maker? The craft brewer? The baker or candlestick maker? Of course not. This was a pointed demonstration of where Trump’s loyalties lie, and it’s not with the people. It was a breathtaking show of arrogance, contempt and disregard for everyday Americans whose incomes and livelihoods are being undermined by this destructive duo. Efficiency has nothing to do with it. Thousands of honest working Americans arbitrarily fired. Tariffs being applied willy-nilly, adversely causing uncertainty while certainly driving up costs of supplies for American businesses large and small and driving the stock market down. Important government departments dismantled to the point where necessary government services like Education, Social Security, Medicaid and the IRS will be practically dysfunctional. And just to rub things in, Trump blithely said he would pay for the red Tesla Model S ($73,490) by check, an amount many of us don’t even earn in a year. So a car dealer and his huckster assistant show up on the White House lawn. Musk and Trump are the only ones laughing. They know full well that the joke is on us.
