The Red Ripple

Does it occur to Republicans that maybe the reason that their anticipated Red Wave was merely a Red Ripple is because many of us don’t buy and don’t want to buy what the Republicans are currently trying to sell? They may seek a scapegoat in Donald Trump, but he is merely a figurehead exploiting a shrill, fanatical conservative base, using it to gain his own ends. He is not the only one. This isn’t the conservative party of Donald, it is the conservative party of DoNot. Rather like the litany in Green Eggs and Ham, there is much that these Republicans DoNot like. They do not like abortion, they are not a fan. They do not like books, contraception or anyone trans.  They would overturn an election in a heartbeat, on a dime, throw out ballots, sorry out of time! They do not like same sex marriage or gun control. Is it any wonder so many of us voted to stop the vitriol? The lesson for Republicans here is not to ramp up money for terrorizing attack ads (Citizens for Sanity just the beginning?), or  to ram conservative Christian religion down our multicultural throats. The lesson?  Do not disdain us. Do not demonize us. Women, gays, trans, teachers, students. People of other ethnicities and faiths. Do not stunt us. We want the freedom to choose, to think, to question, to grow, to worship, to disagree,  to pursue happiness - and (and this is key) to allow others to do so as well. The Red was a Ripple for a reason. For so many, this iteration of the Republican party is excruciatingly out of step. If Republicans want to do well, they must find ways to do good, not just by the fanatical fringe, but by all of us.

Yo, Pennsylvania! Gas taxes are going up again.

How has it come to this?
