Trump told NBC’s “Meet the Press” that he won the election “on groceries.” To those of you who voted for Trump in the hope that he would deliver on lowering food prices, don’t hold your breath. Trump is not yet in office, yet he is already walking back that assurance. “They,” meaning Biden/Harris “got them [prices] up.” and gee, “it’s hard to bring things down once they’re up…it’s very hard.” And with that, Trump takes himself off the hook as he pursues tariffs north, east, south and west, while vowing to decimate many a workforce with mass deportations. It’s “very hard.” Trump tapped into your unhappiness with the cost of groceries, he won your vote. And he is already shifting his position, placing blame elsewhere, insisting, “I can’t guarantee anything.” Yet if/when he doesn’t deliver on cutting our costs, he is sure his presidency won’t be a failure. What will you believe? Trump knew how to tap into your angst to win your vote. Were you aware that Trump has a history of breaking contracts? In Trumpworld, a promise made is not always a promise kept (unless you’re a billionaire). Trump’s distancing himself from his pledge to lower your and my grocery costs is simply the first to be kicked to the curb. Caveat emptor. Caveat the Trump gilded promises. For us, the common American, they may be little more than dross.
